Literature Text
Kaa was resting on a tree branch in the jungle when he heard a loud bawling noise. He awoke and looked at the source of the noise. The branch lay over a river, and Kaa could see a basket floating down the river.
Curious, Kaa lowered his tail and wrapped it around the basket, pulling it up into the tree. When it was in the tree, Kaa peered inside and saw the reason for the noise. A baby was inside, crying!
Kaa thought about this. Perhaps the baby was crying because it was hungry. Kaa could sympathize; he was always hungry. Kaa wrapped his tail around a banana and plucked it from the stem. He managed to peel it with his mouth and gave it to the baby, who managed to chew on the soft, mushy fruit.
Kaa did some more thinking. What should he do with this baby? "You're far too s-small even to s-serve as-s a s-snack," he mused. He had no idea where its parents were, and knew that the child would not survive long in the jungle.
"You know, you look like a little frog." Then he would have snapped his fingers if he had them. "That's-s it! I'll call you Mowgli, meaning 'Little Frog'. I think I'll rais-se you till you're of s-sufficient s-siz-se."
Pleased with himself and his decision to adopt the boy, Kaa slithered off, his new "son" in tow, basket and all.

Alternate ending to Kaa and Mowgli's 2nd encounter
Mowgli the man-cub slept peacefully. He was high up in the branches of a large tree. He was sitting cross legged on a branch, with the soft, warm, scaly coils of a snake wrapped tightly around him. They covered him up completely, leaving only his head to rest on them. Mowgli felt no fear from being wrapped up. It felt like a beautiful, safe bed that he could rest in. Not too long ago Mowgli had been wandering lost and alone when he'd encountered his old enemy Kaa the snake. Mowgli was wary of Kaa, having once before been tricked by the crafty snake into staring into his colorful eyes. But after a short talk, Mowgli saw that he was wrong about

Kaa gets Mowgli
Mowgli knew he was going against orders as he stealthily made his way through the village doing his best not to get seen. Using his quickness he scrambled up across a roof of a house and with a leap landed on a branch and hide behind a tree as he kept quiet seeing his chance he smiled and began walking.
He wouldn't be gone too long, just to see how his old friends where doing. Baloo, Bagheera and his Wolf Family. He missed them they where his family, he even missed King Louie and the Monkeys.
He'd only be gone for a while, he'd make sure of it. Short enough for no one to know that he had gone as he started walking through the branches of th

Alternate ending to Kaa and Mowgli's 1st encounter
The sound of his name stirred Bagheera from his rest. He'd been trying for the past few minutes to finally lie down on the branch and get some much needed sleep, but Mowgli the man cub seemed intent on making things as difficult as possible. The boy had ridden on Bagheera's back all day long, Bagheera had been the one having to keep moving without a single break. He'd had to move quickly, the tiger Shere Kahn could be on them at any time and there was no time to waste. He'd expected Mowgli to understand how important it was they get him back to the man-village, but the boy insisted on arguing all through the night when all Bagheera wanted wa

well, have Kaa raise Mowgli, but then have Kaa have some conflict within himself wondering if he should eat him and not notice Mowgli slipping away and get Kaa to look all over for him before Shere Khan can. Maybe enlist Bagheera and/or Baloo's help
